Past the scientific-religious ideas of flesh-spirit, self-other, depression-despair, is the primate struggling with consciousness. The error is in the notion of categories, in the act of differentiation itself. The act may be inescapable, but should not be confused with the thing itself. Despair is as provisional a concept as depression. They are useful analytical tools, but as intangible as any other mental construct.

Here is the conundrum: A person who is clinically depressed cannot distinguish between his or her own despair and depression, nor can one who is in despair isolate despair from depression. Such ideas are culturally driven, are in some world views artifical, even false, and taken seriously, in another conundrum, only by those in depression or despair, or by those who love them, analyze them, minister to them, prescribe medication for them; which, admittedly, is just about everyone. What we must not allow, in any event, is the notion that Kierkegaard is any more or less valuable than Zoloft in the primate’s exploration of consciousness./One spreadsheet was year-by-year global temperature changes from 1880 to 2009, adjusted through most of this year from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's ground measurements. A Montgomery criminal defense lawyer, Joe Van Heest, has been vetted to replace Canary. But his nomination has been held up by objections from Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), who supports a daughter of a political supporter and friend for the job.
Bill Mercer, District of Montana Mercer, who has been U.S. Attorney since 2001, came under fire for simultaneously serving as Montana U.S. Attorney and as the Justice Department’s Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General and Associate Attorney General in Washington for almost two years. Emails obtained by congressional investigators showed he was involved in the internal Bush administration deliberations that led up to the 2006 U.S. Attorney firings. Obama last week nominated Helena lawyer Michael Cotter to replace Mercer.

MANAMA — An American warship on anti-piracy patrol has seized four tons (3,600 kilos) of hashish from a wooden boat in a part of the Gulf of Aden known as the "Hash Highway," the US Fifth Fleet said on Tuesday.

It said the USS Anzio's seizure of the drugs with an estimated street value of 28 million dollars took place on October 15 off the southern Omani coastal city of Salalah.

The skiff was "spotted travelling at a high speed by Anzio's crew," the Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet said in a statement. "Following a brief chase, the skiff was boarded."

"Yesterday these sailors were hunting pirates. Today they have sent a message to all would-be smugglers that we won't tolerate pirates or drug traffickers in these waters," a US military commander said in the statement.

It said the drugs were thrown overboard and destroyed, without reporting arrests. More than 22 tons of drugs have been seized in the region so far this year, the Fifth Fleet said. / I support US sovereignty over banksters but not neocon world war. 8 minutes ago

I am not a huge fan of technical analysis, but it is a useful tool for navigating a trader-heavy, liquidity driven, manipulated market such as today’s. On that note, I want to point out that the dollar began forming a falling bullish wedge pattern starting in June (see above chart). This pattern entails an ever-tightening range of lower highs and lower lows and typically precedes major breakouts to the upside.

Americans just got 15% poorer on the world stage thanks to Ben Bernanke
A currency crisis is in the works (and perhaps already starting)
Regarding #1: When the financial crisis hit, the Fed realized it would need to keep interest rates low while it attempted to bail out the banks (80% of the $200+ trillion in derivatives sitting on commercial banks’ balance sheets are related to interest rates).

The problem with this is that it makes Treasuries very unattractive to foreign investors (China & Japan) who want a higher yield. Consequently, the Fed decided to pick up the slack by buying $300 billion worth of Treasuries through the now famous Quantitative Easing program./Was a member of 4 unions in my working life. "They were totally opposed to it," Born says. "That puzzled me. Even the New York Times predicted, in 1999, that Clinton's pressure to greatly increase subprime mortgage was VERY risky, and could cause a mortgage catastrophe like the 1980s, in the event of a general downturn -- which is precisely what happened.
